CFGP announces a new scholarship fund to assist ELL students from the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board
CFGP is proud to announce a new established fund: Ferne Cristall English Language Learner Scholarship! This honorary scholarship was created by colleagues and community members upon the retirement of Ferne Cristall from her position as ELL teacher and consultant to KPRDSB.
This fund will generate annual scholarships to a deserving ELL student, with the anticipation that the first scholarship be received during commencement ceremonies for this academic school year.
The fundraising goal is $10,000 and donations can be made online through the CFGP CanadaHelps page, or by cheque made payable to the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough. Tax receipts will be issued for donations over $20.
CFGP announces $42,000 in grants in support of refugee settlement
The Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough is pleased to announce two grants to assist with refugee settlement in our community.
This grant was made with generous donations provided by the Kamerin Fund and from the Linda and Alan Slavin Fund – donor advised funds invested and managed by CFGP.
Presentations were made at the start of a Symposium exploring community support for Government Assisted Refugees hosted by the New Canadians Centre at Adam Scott Collegiate on Tuesday, March 29, 2016.
On March 17th 2016, the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough (CFGP) recognized Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region (HFHPKR) as the recipient of an inaugural grant of $25,000 from the new Kelly-Phillips Family Fund. This fund is associated with HFHPKR's new royal patrons, Autume and Peter Phillips.
The Kelly-Phillips Family Fund was established by Brian and Lynne Kelly as a donor-advised fund held within the CFGP. Similar to a private foundation, income generated by the fund principal enables the making of grants to charities whose work is of particular importance to the Kelly family.

The Kawartha Muslim Religious Association (KMRA) has asked the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough to hold and manage a fund to address needs of women and children.
Following the deliberate burning of the mosque the KMRA membership received a tremendous outpouring of support from the community. A crowdfunding campaign generated more than $110,000 to aid in restoring the mosque. Surplus funds will be used to establish the KMRA Fund for Women and Children that will support the YWCA Crossroads Shelter and Five Counties Children's Centre.
