Grants Awarded

In collaboration with many donors and partners, the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough provides funding to a broad range of programs, initiatives and organizations. Here are examples of grants awarded by the Community Foundation:

The Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough, in partnership with Benjamin Moore & Co. Limited, supported three local community groups to complete important restoration and renovation projects.

  • Peterborough Green Up: Renovated a public resource space that includes offices and an information centre for residents and businesses. The space showcases low VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint.
  • Down Syndrome Association of Peterborough: Painted their office, located in a 75-year-old building, to create an inviting, soothing atmosphere for children attending programs and classes.
  • Sadleir House: Sadleir House, a 1892 Queen Anne style house with 1960s modernist additions by Canadian architect Ron Thom, used the funding to restore and furnish the Senior Common Rooms that feature stained glass, ceiling medallions, and a turret.

The 2011 Organization Leadership and Innovation Grants provided investments to strengthen the organizational infrastructure and leadership of charitable organizations in the City and County of Peterborough.

  • COIN - working with several other community groups, will provide leadership to the multi-sectoral committee it is leading to develop a Peterborough Centre for Social Innovation. The Centre will be a habitat for social, economic and environmental innovators – entrepreneurs, non-profit professionals, artists, funders, students, mentors, and community leaders.
  • New Canadians Centre will pilot the Peterborough Welcome Pass. This program will allow newcomers to become familiar with and participate in the community's culture, arts and recreational opportunities. Newcomers who register will have access to free or discounted admissions to supporting organizations for their first year living in Peterborough.
  • The Rural Outreach Centre will offering training opportunities for non-profit service providers in the county of Peterborough in the areas of governance structures and best practices, volunteer recruitment and sustainment, and providing opportunities to meet individual staff and volunteer training needs, enhancing service capacities and providing networking and collaboration opportunities between agencies.
  • Trent Radio will develop an annual Community Radio Workshop Session, open to local community organizations, that will demonstrate how to and provide guidance for using community
