Our History
The dream of creating a community foundation for the Peterborough region began in 2006.
After four years of working on the successful development of housing related projects,
the Peterborough Affordable Housing Foundation (PAHF) decided to expand its mandate to
better serve the needs of the County and City of Peterborough.
The PAHF Board of Directors met with a number of community leaders and concluded that the formation
of a community foundation for the greater Peterborough region would recognize the unique
interests and needs of our growing community and provide a permanent, endowed fund that
could be used to improve the health and vitality of the City and County of Peterborough,
both for today and for the future.
A steering committee was formed to guide the development of the Community Foundation
of Greater Peterborough and for the past two years that group of committed volunteers
has been hard at work building the Board, establishing the Foundation's mission and
mandate and administrative infrastructure. The Steering Committee has been working
closely with a number of local foundations and charitable organizations and with Community
Foundations of Canada, a national association of some 160 community foundations across Canada.
